Linking site to site

A couple of queries:

 

1) Has anyone experienced a merge with another school and NOT put in place a physical link to the other site?

 

2) Has anyone linked to another site using line-of-sight radio, and if so what's your experience of this?

Not to another school, but we have a point to point link both to our LEA for main internet, and to our sports centre that's down the road for our internal network.

 

Never had a drop out yet that we know of to our sports centre, and not seen any issues with speed etc yet. We run IP phones, and computer system over it.

How much you are sending down it? I would look at some kind of circuit from Virgin or BT.

If i remember rightly it was £600 per month many years ago with BT. Not a bad price really.

Done p2p Radio and Physical link.

 

Depending on what speed you need radio does not have to be line of sight, somethig like a pair Deliberant 5M-18 will give 100Mb even with some obstructions.

Sorry for bumping this, but before I attend a relevant meeting next week I just want to try one more time to see if anyone out there has been part of a merge where no link and no single network was employed.

Well, one of our supported infants and juniors has merged as a federation, but are running two seperate networks still if that counts? Or I guess what's the question?

Essentially, what I'm looking for are examples of two or more schools merging to form a single school/academy, yet not linking sites and not having a single network platform.

Well the infants and juniors are mentioned above, run under same headteacher etc, but are seperate sites, with seperate networks. No networking linking them.

 

But being an infant/junior it's not like students move between the sites everyday etc, as no real problems with user accounts etc.

Yeah - I guess I should have stipulated secondary schools.
