Drivers, missing out of date software.

Hello. I have been searching for a free driver update utility that will recognize missing drivers and update existing drivers. I currently use SlimDrivers but this application isn't all that great for missing drivers. Just at updating already installed drivers.

Can someone recommend an application that is free and will update missing, out of date drivers.

All of this is kind of academic anyway as the really difficult stuff is going to require good old fashioned research to and with the device Id, name etc.

Thanks for the replys. So far slimdrivers seems like the best free version. Thanks for the suggestion arthur but after looking at that it would take a while to setup rather than just installing a piece of software. is a bit more effort than i was planning on doing.

There are other driver updater/missing that do the same job like drivermax, driver detective, but these require an account creating and then ask u to pay. There has too be a free driver updater that will automatically scan ur pc then install/update all that are missing.

I do google search the device id's but it would be nicer to have a free piece of software to do all that for me.

I think the problem is, what your asking for can so easily be sold because it really would be a real convenience.

 

If this issue is after you have imaged the computers then why not add the drivers to the image? WDS for example has support for this, you could also add them to CDs etc if you wanted to. I know this requires the initial work to be completed by you but you can make it so you only need to do it once. If you are struggling to find out what you are finding a driver for use something like PCI database (PCI Vendor and Device Lists) and then search by ID.

I use altiris deployment solution, it has a driver database which I always pre add drivers prior to deployment.

There are some situations where a missing driver/update utility comes in handy and takes out all the manual work of finding device id's googling it. Also the driver update facility is very handy to update existing drivers to the latest versions. I already have a tool that does the job, I was just thought it was worth checking if anyone had a free update utility that updates/replaces all drivers at once.
