Well, it's happened: BBC News - Microsoft to turn off Windows Messenger on 15 March

If you haven't upgraded to Skype by the 15th March 2013 then you won't be able to use messenger at all.

I haven't used it for years, when it became Live messenger I took a dislike and just started using Facebook chat and Skype.

Going to be missing it here - has been the main method to talk (IM/Video chat) with my other half while she is up in Newcastle at Uni - going to be moving to Skype though so its not all bad.

Its not dead actually, just Live Messenger and Messenger apps will break, the protocol and servers will be online for another year.

Can't say I've used it for the best of 4 years now, and even before that I rarely went on it. At least the world will be ridden of that annoying "DOO DEE DOO!" sound everytime you get a message.. unless EduGeek decide to upgrade their PM system. OH GOD *runs for the hills*

 

I think this was wayyyyy too late to happen anyway, it was ruined after Windows Live 2009 (and even WLM was pants.) - It's like when all the teenies went through the Bebo to Facebook transition, MSN is 'sooooo last year!'
