Setting a website up on computer

Hi there

 

I am playing around with creating an Intranet for the school I work for, but I was wondering if there is a way so that when I link to pages or photos etc, instead of having it going to C:\users\scotyboy56\Pictures\background etc.

is there a that I can set my laptop up so as I can store all the stuff I am using to create the website into on location and have it linking to \\intranet\website\pictures\background etc...

Xampp is a great little tool. Or if you're familiar with IIS, you can install that through control panel.....

You can use WampServer, the web development platform on Windows - Apache, MySQL, PHP which will install a apache web server on to your machine. You can then access your pictures through EduGeek.net - The I.T. Professionals' life line.

Most importantly, if you want people to access the computer as http://intranet.... then don't forget to set a record on your DNS server to make sure it points to the right machine (and probably best to give that machine a static, or at least reserved in DHCP, IP address too).

 

Our intranet runs on our MacMini Server (it was sat there doing pretty much nothing apart from the odd iPad configuration, so might as well make use of it) and in our DNS server on our main 2008R2 server I have set an A record to make sure intranet.school.name points to the servers IP address, which is reserved in our DHCP server.

I have got WAMP installed as when I installed Xampp and I tried to go to EduGeek.net - The I.T. Professionals' life line it just kept on denying me, saying im not logged in.

It still does the same with WAMP can anyone help me with this?? its probably something simple that I am overlooking..

Fixed it, as im going through a proxy server, I forgot to tick bypass proxy for local addresses.
