Oops_my_bad Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 We are running out of IP addresses so have been issued a brand spanking new scope from the suits at the LEA to acommodate around ~1500 hosts. We can't "add" to our existing range as they have been allocated to another school already 8O Over the summer we will whacking in the new scope. Now obviously I am mindful of stuff with static IP addresses set but is there anything else I need to be aware of when totally changing the scope? Ie stuff like AD and DNS? Or will these all update automagically? We are running AD-integrated DNS zones.
Ric_ Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Firstly... why not just use NAT? Secondly... the answer to your question: * Servers SHOULD all have static IPs which will need changing (along with associated DNS server entries) * DNS should update automatically when you update the settings and when clients receive their new DHCP leases - some devices won't because they are awkward * Don't forget to change settings for name servers, etc. in the DHCP scope
Oops_my_bad Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Cheers Ric. We did consider NAT, but for various technical and political reasons it's a no-goer Looks pretty straight forward anyway. If I change the IP address of domain controllers these will automatically update the SRV records right?

Should do IIRC... it might be worth using the VMWare tools to make virtual machines of your DCs so that you can practice.
