Home NAS box - Which to choose?

I need some urgent help here as ebuyer have 2 that are going for a very good price:

 

ZyXEL NSA310 1-bay (no disk) NAS Drive | Ebuyer.com

 

D-Link DNS-320 ShareCenter Pulse 2-bay (no disks) NAS.. | Ebuyer.com

 

So, what's it to be? The ZyXEL of the D-Link?

The ZyXEL looks like the better NAS out of the two.

The ZyXEL is only 1 bay so no mirrored disk DB so you might want to go for the Dlink as its 2 disk (assuming this is following on from your blog post ) Edited December 29, 2012 by john

I'm with John...D-link seems the sensible option for mirroring unless you mod the Zyxel box.

 

QNAS do a decent home spec box for not too much, depending on your budget.

Thanks all, I'll order one tomorrow. It's a bit annoying that I only really need 2x500GB drives however they are often more expensive than 2x1TB drives (I know, I know) however there is only a £10 price difference between the cheapest 500GB drive and the cheapest 1TB drive. Often the drives between 500/600GB are more expensive!

Personally I'd stump up a few quid more and go for a 2 bay zyxel, they're a much better NAS than the DLink.

Yea, um D-Link is well, D-Link. I have heard that their NAS units are much better than their switches and other gear but that is a pretty low bar to jump. Saying that I have heard of one that has been used in a small business and seems to be still serving out stuff to five users happily after a couple of years. Remember to record the IP address you set on it incase as their config software is/was very unstable and a tad weird UI wise.

The read/write speeds on that D-Link NAS are horrendous (as they are with most cheap NASs due to their limited RAM and weak CPUs). At least the ZyXEL one is a bit faster.

I've had a D-Link Sharecentre for a couple of years now, and love it... Got it without drives and stuck 2 x 3TB drives in mirrored... using DLink's DDNS to keep it accessible online too...

I'm ordering the Zyxel, especially after reading these 2 reviews and seeing the price it was selling for last year!
