Hi

Working on the basis that your DR plan is only as good as your last test, mine is pretty poor. I take daily backups of data and system state using a 10 disk rotation and store the disks in a fireproof safe on site. I've just started taking the end of weeks and months disks off site after I read on here about a school which couldn't access its backups even though they were intact as the building was deemed unsafe after a fire. I've successfully recovered data from these disks, but never tried to rebuild the system. Bearing in mind that I only have one server and it's not virtualised, any suggestions on how to test?

Thanks as ever.

Try to bring the services and data up again without using the existing server or your onsite stash of install media.

So reprovision basic services in line with pre-agreed ("Oi, SLT, if we've burnt down, what things do you want available first?") order and see if it's possible.

So Ethernet, DHCP & DNS, Internet Access, Auth, Mail, MIS, File shares, Wireless etc
