Hi Guys, long time lurker here.

I've just had our only DC fail due to a power cut and a faulty UPS and will no longer boot, but I do have a full WSB on a RDX cartridge. I've tried relentlessly to recover from the RDX through the Server DVD media but I always get the error message "0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect". After a lot of googling everyone is saying this happens if the drive configuration is different to what the backup is (e.g. booting off a USB drive messing up the assigned drive letters etc). Either way after many hours I've given up trying to get this to work.

I've noticed that WSB uses a VHD for each drive. Is there a way I can just open the VHD and do a straight copy for each of the drives (including the OS)? Even if there is a way to do this, will everything still work ok?

Thanks for your help on this. I managed to get the backup to recover this morning.

I taken the RDX dock out of the server and plugged it into a desktop, along with a empty SATA drive. I copied the contents of the RDX to the empty SATA, then plugged the SATA into the server. It was more than happy to perform a recovery then.
