It does - how close to the screen does it work? Can we simply replace all our IWBs with one of these?

Sure this has been posted on here before. It'll be massive; sod the touch interfaces on Windows 8, touch is just a stepping stone to the gesture based stuff in the Leap.

 

@dhicks: iirc it is a smaller scale Kinect, and monitors about a metre square in front of your monitor. The advantage of the smaller working space is the accuracy. So potentially you could use it mounted underneath a board so long as you kept the gestures in a small area; but for standing in front of a board, a Kinect-style device would probably be better.

 

It is, in essence, just meant to be used in the space between you and your monitor. And it will be brilliant, and the actual future of UI with computers, not this touch nonsense they're trying to foist on us from mobile devices. WRT to tiring, I think lifting your hand from the keyboard to swipe an email out the way, or spin a 3D object etc. will be workable - no less effort than reaching for the mouse. It shouldn't be a replacement for a mouse or keyboard but an addition to them, and I'd rather lift my hand from the keyboard and waggle vaguely at the screen than have to extend my arm more fully to touch my monitor.

That's rather what I was thinking, too - it looks like the kind of device you could set up to initially provide a touch interface to an LCD or projected screen, then use for gesture recognition later.

Gestures, like touch for many things, are still just completely stupid. I'm not flailing around in front of a computer just to use it. Same for consoles.
