Short Thow Projector - 3m wide picture

Hi

 

Apologies for the piece of string question but can anyone recommend reasonably priced (very?)short throw projector that can throw a 3m wide picture (either 16:9 or 4:3) in a fairly bright environment? Looking for a projector for the drama department but it's a v high ceiling, completely glass fronted and can't use drop down or long vertical poles as it will cause a shadow...

 

It's the last room in the school without a fixed projector and I can't put it off any longer

Hi Andrew,

 

I think you are going to struggle to be honest. To achieve that sort of image you will need a projector of 4000 lumens at least I would of thought.

 

I might be wrong but I believe the brightest short throw currently is something like an Epson EB 460 at 3000 lumens. Probably good for 2.2m image.

Is the back wall fixed? I think you might either need to get something projected from the back. Or have one at a large angle facing down from a height.

To achieve a 3m wide image with this projector the throw range is between 4.8m and 5.8m so hardly a short throw.

I can measure out Ultra Short Throw Epson, I think they go to about 3 metres from 1 metre away. the room is in use though all day today so would have to wait.

Using the distance tool provided by Casio it came pretty close and with the zoom it might have done the job.

 

Reason I put this forward was we are looking to do exactly the same thing at our school and I had an AV specialist out and after he did the sums it comes very close.

Thanks for all the replies so far. To clear up a few questions, yes there is a fixed back wall that could be used if necessary but may have to move some of the wall lights to achieve it. And yes, looking to throw an image 3m wide onto a standard pull-down screen or white wall rather than anything interactive.

 

Drama want to use it for back-drops for small year group plays etc hence why shadows are going to be a problem.

BenQ sell the MX812ST which is a short throw and will produce a 3m wide image 4:3 at 1.8m if thats any good?
