L3OUGH Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Good Evening Everyone, Firstly, this is my first post, so apologies if it's in the wrong area! Now, this is not my fault. The laptop in question is my parents! It's nothing to do with me! It say's "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" Yes this is probably a common issue, however what threw me was the fact I can't access advanced startup options (Safe Mode etc), I couldn't make it boot it to Recovery Disks or anything!? Everything in the BIOS appears to be in shape as well. Am I missing something here or what?! I fear the HDD is dead. If anyone has any idea's, please, fire away!! Thanks Liam
laserblazer Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Welcome Liam. Have you got another drive you can try and boot it from?
L3OUGH Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Hi Laser, Possibly, I may have an old XP one lying around somewhere at work, that was going to be my next port of call if no one had any other software or OS related idea's. Thanks
elsiegee40 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Welcome to edugeek It sounds like HDD failure unfortunately.
L3OUGH Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks for the input guys. It confirms my suspicions! Bloody annoying! Haha looks like I'm buying Win 8 and a SSD for them then.
Oaktech Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 just a thought... there definitely isn't an SD card/memorystick/cd in it that it's having a go at booting from first? Is there?
L3OUGH Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Nope, I did wonder, checked the SD reader. Nothing in there. Boot order is correct, even excluded everything other then the HHD.
laserblazer Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 You might still be able to read the HD in a caddy and get docs off.
L3OUGH Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 That's what I was planning on trying to do. Fingers crossed haha!?
