burnsyb0y Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Hi, i have been searching online for a bit now and i don't know whether i am looking for the wrong thing but a cannot seem to be able to find anything that tells me how to deploy backgrounds to client side machines using group policy on windows server 2008, could anyone enlighten me please? As is a lot of the machines on our admin network have blank black backgrounds and the users cannot change the backgrounds themselves. Thanks.
Davit2005 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I should imagine it'd be the same as on Server 2003, you can deploy the background from a network share, NETLOGON folder etc. or have it select a standard windows background from the local machine if possible. Under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop > Active Desktop > Active Desktop Wallpaper.
burnsyb0y Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Going to try this after lunch, will let you know if it has fixed the issue!
TheMinister Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 If you are pushing wallpapers to Windows 7 machines, take note that you do have to make a Registry Entry change. Otherwise the group policy will not take effect.
Davit2005 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Couple of more options. 1. You could use BGInfo to pushout wallpapers, you could remove all the fields if so wish. 2. You could also force a theme to the clients which could use a built in background. I've not tried pushing desktop backgrounds to Windows 7 TBH but it works with XP.
6Foot2 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 ...I've not tried pushing desktop backgrounds to Windows 7 TBH but it works with XP. Works with Windows 7 [32 Bit and 64 Bit] We use it for staff and student desktop wallpapers. Makes things very easy.
