6Foot2 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Link: Monster Energy Drink 'Linked To Five Deaths' - Yahoo! News UK This news item has been circulated to all staff here along with a recommendation to confiscate any high energy, high caffeine drinks if students are seen with them around school. Posted here for information.
X-13 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 News of the FDA's investigation follows the launch of a wrongful death lawsuit in California, by the parents of a 14-year-old Maryland girl who died after drinking two Monster Energy Drinks in just 24 hours. A post mortem examination found that Anais Fournier died of cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity that impeded her heart's ability to pump blood. She also suffered from an inherited disorder that can weaken blood vessels. Her parents claim Monster failed to warn about the risks of drinking its products. If stupid people with heart conditions are going to drink things with loads of caffine in... And it isn't Monster's job to teach their kids too much caffine is bad. Why didn't the parent say anything? Even something in general, along the lines of "you have a heart condition. You can't drink that stuff." [Also, I swear they're age restricted in this country.]
hardtailstar Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I guess when I drank 6 in 2 hours i was dicing with death!! I dont think they are age restricted as ive seen plenty of kids (younger than teenagers) drinking them. I guess it all comes down to an active and healthy lifestyle. As we all know that fizzy drinks are bad for us!
X-13 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) I guess when I drank 6 in 2 hours i was dicing with death!! Red Bull + Vodka. I have no clue why people drink it. Red Bull speeds up your heart, alcohol [iIRC] slows it down. [SCIENCE!] Warning: About 50% of that page is ads. Their layout sucks. Edited October 24, 2012 by X-13
hardtailstar Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Red Bull + Vodka. I have no clue why people drink it. Red Bull speeds up your heart, alcohol [iIRC] slows it down. therefore both should cancel each other out!.... in theroy!
6Foot2 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 ...Warning: About 50% of that page is ads. Their layout sucks. Yeah. Sorry about that. It was the link that was circulated to us so I just sent it on.
X-13 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Yeah. Sorry about that. It was the link that was circulated to us so I just sent it on. I was on about the one I posted. The left half is science[!] the right half is ads. Although, yours killed my computer.
glennda Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 One energy drink every now and then when a boost is needed isn't going to have a dire effect. Lots of energy drinks all the time especially people with heart conditions etc it will harm you.
Oaktech Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Red Bull + Vodka. I have no clue why people drink it. Red Bull speeds up your heart, alcohol [iIRC] slows it down. [SCIENCE!] Warning: About 50% of that page is ads. Their layout sucks. It's a speedball in a glass...
6Foot2 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 ...Although, yours killed my computer. Oops? [Hopefully OK again now]
X-13 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Oops? [Hopefully OK again now] It lag-froze. It's good now though.
tech_guy Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 The kids here are obsessed with energy drinks. We even had an enterprising student who was getting his father to buy from the local cash & carry so he could sell them in school. If people want to rot their teeth and waste their money then it's a free country.

My nephew (13) sometimes drinks them but he is a normal healthy lad with no conditions. Everyone knows they are energy drinks and not fruit juice...
tech_guy Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 We have staff here who seem to live on the stupid things - teaching and non-teaching. Not even remotely sporty types either which is what you might expect.
X-13 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 You are asking people to have common sense? I'm 24. I'm still young enough to be naive about the levels of idiocy in the world.
SYNACK Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 From someone several Red Bulls in, I like them. They make me feel awake a slightly which is a change and that is worth it. If that makes my heart explode so be it.
