Windows 7 network connectivity

Hi all, I don't know if this is a Windows issue or a Switch issues. Here's my problem We have a 24 port cisco 2950 switches connected to 15 windows 7. One morning when the staff power on the computers in the morning and 5 of them fail to connect to the network at the same time. What I've done so far is to change the speed back and forth, turn off the computers unplug the power cord and network cable for 5 minutes and nothing change. I switched the nic cable with a working workstation with a non-working pc, nothing change on the non-working station. what could it possible happened? Can it be a bad Nic card? if that's the case, is it possible to happened to 5 of them at the same time? I also switch the port on the cisco switch but no luck? Does anyone come across a similar problems like I have. Oh on the connectivity on the bottom right was showing an exclamation mark on the network symbol. thanks in advance if someone can point me to the right information how to fix the issue.

Have you tried plugging a machine directly into the port(s) on the switch? It could be an issue between the socket and the patch panel, assuming that's the kind of setup you have. I can't quite work out whether you've put the non-working machine into the socket on the working machine - or whether you've just changed the cable.

 

Could quite likely be the NIC if you have. Checked drivers, reinstalled?

As with other suggestions above

 

I assume you are getting connectivity lights. Check to see if you have enough IP addresses in the pool.

 

Logon locally if possible and check the machine is getting an IP address, try pinging the DC's by name, try pinging the switch.

 

Don't rule out falky patch cables either.

 

Given the exclamation mark I'd check the IP address straight away after logging in locally while not being able to log onto the network.
