DVD works but cd is blank

Having a few issues with our dell pc's.

if you put a DVD in the player it picks i up and works fine.

However if you put a cd rom in there it picks it up and either tried to burn desktop.ini to it or if you delete this it sais theres nothing on the disk. i have tried sereral cds and all the same issue. This is affecting a few of our computers.

I have tried using a DVD laser lens cleaner and still the same.

Any ideas?

I agree, it sounds like a faulty drive. I've seen it happen the other way around too.

I concur with the above, each media type uses a different laser to read write the data, only takes one to break, the other can still perform.
