Zourous Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 We've just had two of these just recently start showing what look like stars from a distance but are more than likely pixels as you see the odd one flash or go back to normal. They are randomly scattered from the left hand corner area around to the middle of the display almost as if someone has sprayed them there. This occurs even when no laptop is attached. Speaking to a repair company they seem to think it is dirt or dust inside the projector, but I'm not so sure. Firstly, the stars appeared from no-where and secondily they are most definitely pixels because if you see them close up they are square to each other. Has anyone else come across this problem? and yes the warranty expired earlier on this year.
BennyG Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Hi Zourous, Had the same problem the an NP200, little white stars/pixels that seemed to grow on the image regardless of the the input. Ours was just in warranty and returned to NEC, apparently an issue with the DLP chip or something along those lines. Not sure about dust inside, I find that when its dust causing issues you can almost adjust the focus on the spots to make them blurry or sharp. We had a lot of issues with the NP200, returning at least 6 for one reason on another, that said NEC support was very good. 1
Oaktech Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Sounds like a DLP chip expiring to me. Time for a new projector. 1
Zourous Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Has anyone got any idea of the costs involved if it is this DLP chip?
Oaktech Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 our local projector repair people, who will usually repair anything for a fee, say throw it away and get a new projector if the dlp chip has gone it is not worth repairing 1
