Flatpackhamster Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Am I Weird? Good title for a thread, cos it allows for opening the subject up..... Thus, am I weird? I watch my stepson play Minecraft, and to be honest, I cannot see what all the fuss is about. Graphics are s**t, gameplay seems to be nigh on non-existent, except for run around building blocky things. Can anyone explain the attraction of playing a game that wouldn't look out of place in 1987? I see where you're coming from. The game is ugly as sin. There's no need for a game to be ugly. It doesn't have to be pretty, but ugly is a problem. However, I tried the game and I'm addicted. Gave myself crippling tendonitis from playing it too much. I don't know why I'm addicted, but I am. It's easy to pick up, easy to put down. I'm having a blast building stuff. Iron-age hillforts, latifundia, Roman temples, all sorts of stuff. I haven't even started on playing with the electrical circuits. Might try some of the anti-ugliness mods to get rid of the fugly.
bushby Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 mods is where the game just explodes. eg rp2 (eloram i love you) ic2 bc and mystcraft are where its at but if you want a harder game add terrafermacraft or better then wolves. both add a whole new lay of complexity

But OTOH there is something to be said for letting your imagination do the work, but then I do play stuff like Cart Life, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Crawl, Stone Soup. There also seems to be a bit of a resurgence of '8-bit' retro style games these days which is cool.
