Quick electrical 'duffer' question!

 

We have av wallplates for smartboard/projector connections in all classrooms, they have a vga connector, usb and audio ports. Some of the vga connectors are coming loose and I have shoved them back in! The caretaker refused to have anything to do with the wall plates as they are 'electrical'. Is there an electrical supply to these wall plates or are they just connectors?

Ok the correct answer is that without a "qualified" person taking one off to check for the presence of mains voltages it is impossible to be able to advise you on this issue.

If there is no power line into them - ie. you don't have to turn a power cable on to make the wallplate work (not to be confused with the power switch for the projector itself), then the devices are low voltage. Sure, it could be classed as 'electrical' if you were being stubborn or specifically annoying, but realistically? Its not.

And the statement from the caretaker and op just says "electrical supply". which there is

 

It is however unliky to find a "MAINS" supply , but with the vast array of deployments out there anything is possible.

 

I got 80V's from a mains plug last year ( yes a plug, not a socket ) on a pice of bespoke furniture.

To put your mind at rest there is NO electrical current/voltage of any significance in VGA,USB, PHONO, HDMI, but still dont recommend that your caretaker should take a look as he could damage the modules. contact your SLA It support dept or get a 3rd party company to check it out

Thanks all - decided to do it properly and check with the installing company - even though it did make me sound neurotic. Probably having managed wireless setup shortly which will mean a few extra data points, will get the wall plates replaced as an extra item.
