No internet and printers are not working. please help

Hi folks

 

just after lunch internet across the school is down. but working in school office which is not part of our domain and it is in a work group. called lgfl support desk. still we are in part of LGFL1. later discovered teachers cannot print to the printers.please help me, what to look for? i restarted the switches, router and DNS but n luck. please help me.

Try changing a PCs dns settings to use google dns 8.8.8.8 - Does the internet work now?

Assuming your gateway isn't the proxy, take the proxy out of the equation as we are testing DNS right now. Remove any proxy settings and try the interwebs. Or better yet just ping bbc.co.uk (assuming no firewalls block pings)

I did try to use Google DNS but no Internet. We and could not ping to BBC.co. UK.

 

Just the update from teachers they cannot connect to network. But in ict room I tried I dould connect to server.

The office computers, on a different domain, can see the internet?

 

How does the internet come in to the school?

You are correct ict room computers can see the server but no Internet. Office is not part of the domain can see the server. Our Internet come from BT and we not use caching server. Just straight to main com cabinet. I called Virginia for update they said we are still LGFL1 and it is still supported by capita and waiting for their response

They are not connected to server but they can use Internet

Another update office use different DNS. That's why they can get Internet

Sounds like it could be a Gateway issue to me.

You can't always just use an external DNS if your network relies on internal 'proxy' addresses for instance a Google DNS wouldn't pick up the correct entries for your network and would not work.

 

So you are saying if you use the DNS reported in the Office PCs you can get internet access?

Problem solved. One of the ethernet switch connected to server is dead.
