Looking for some good guides for active directory and domain setup

I have just been given a underling, wah ha ha ha

The problem is hes great with stand alone machines but has never ever used a server. If he was going to stay on I would send him off for training but as it is I only have him for 6 months and want him to be more useful before I hand him on.

To this end I have promised him a couple of Virtual servers to learn on and setup on a safe area of our network. What I need is a good guide for him on setting up the servers and using active directory etc so I do not end up teaching him my bad habbits. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not sure where you are in the UK, but if you're within a sensible distance of Reigate in Surrey, Sarah Malvern at ITS Training does a free 2 day course called "Introduction to Windows Server platforms" which covers AD, GPO, etc.

She specialises in schools, so it's really relevant stuff! I did it in the past and it's really good.

I'd look at some of the Microsoft self paced MCP/MCTS books, this way you can kill 2 birds with one stone as you get step by step guided training which he can do in his scheduled/own/spare time and also if you offer to cover the cost of the exam at the end you may get a certified member of staff.

We've done that with some of the tech guys here (including myself) although I will keep quiet about my configuring vista certification :suicide:

The same way I learnt/learning just dive on in and see what you can do. Then turn to edugeek for help when I break something. :p
