I'm new to education, having come from a business background. I notice that the senior management team don't adhere to project management prinicples and just want to do stuff without considering the consequences on IT support, the students and staff. Training, testing and communication seem to be add ons which we will get round to later. Is this the norm ?

Yeh thats pretty much the norm in the public sector full stop, though things are changing slowly thanks to BECTA FITS.

Yep! Welcome to our world. Individually, you can plan to your hearts content but as soon as you attempt to action anything, the plans go out of the window as the SMT always change their minds without considering those who have been working on a project.

soory mate thats life in education. The problem is the Teachers should not be managers but thats what 95% of any SMT/SLT in schools are.

 

Its not about to change either.

afraid so, they're teachers after all and generally not trained to manage IT projects. I've consistently asked for my bosses to be trained to Prince2, and for H&S training.
