Rawns Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 What about things like WiFi names? Mine is named Pretty Fly for a WiFi. 1
SYNACK Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 What about things like WiFi names? Mine is named Pretty Fly for a WiFi. I have spent way to long with Cisco gear, mine is called 'Interface'.
Rawns Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I've always named computers/servers/APs after psychotic robots. Might I recommend Bender as a future device name?
X-13 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) What about things like WiFi names? Mine is named Pretty Fly for a WiFi. So is mine. My mum thought it was hilarious. Might I recommend Bender as a future device name? You may, and indeed have. I may look into renaming my Galaxy S... It's an android, close enough. Le EDIT: Galaxy S is now "Bender of Robonia" on bluetooth. Le EDIT the second, ESQ: Now "Bender of Robonia" on google play. Edited September 25, 2012 by X-13 1
gshaw Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Mine are solely functional but becoming ever more cryptic as I try to get the role, version and number of servers into the NETBIOS character limit (never liked going over it for whatever reason)
Rawns Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Le EDIT: Galaxy S is now "Bender of Robonia" on bluetooth. All hail Robonia! A name he didn't make up!!!
X-13 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 All hail Robonia! A name he didn't make up!!! Check the new edit. It's on Google Play, too. 1
Fleetwood Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Forgot to mention, my home router SSID is "Get Your Own!"
Rawns Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 My bluetooth name: Hint: Whooooop! Whoooop! Whoop! 1
Garacesh Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Need a bluetooth name? Why not Zoidberg? My wifi is simply HerpDerp. My bluetooth isn't anything, as my phone has itself stuck in a bootloop and is unusable (HTC Desire, CyanogenMod 7, if anyone has any ideas)
X-13 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 phone has itself stuck in a bootloop and is unusable (HTC Desire, CyanogenMod 7, if anyone has any ideas) Boot to recovery, reinstall. That fixed mine. [CM9]
AMLinington Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Our WiFi SSID is Sim&Veq but I'm tempted to change it to 'Police Surveillance' or 'MI6OpsVan226' Currently I only have one server atm as a test environment and it's on my VMnet, so it's VMNETAD.VMNET.LOCAL, but when we FINALLY get the office decorated and I can unpack my hardware (we've had the house over a year and half my stuff is still in boxes) I might start calling them after places in WoW: Karazhan Stormwind Ironforge Darnassus Exodar Those are just the main cities - the possibilities are almost endless. I know. I'm sad.
Earthling Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 None of you live in range of me, so I'll tell you my WiFi SSID......it's Rancho Mucho. I don't broadcast it though. Home server's called Rancho.Mucho.local but I haven't had it powered up for months, don't really see the need for it anymore. Like me, it's getting on and should be retired, gracefully, sometime in the (hopefully, very) near future.

AMLinington Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 You need a custom login message saying "LEEEEEEROOOY JEEEEEEENKIINS! Let's do this." LOL Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerooooooooooooy! I'm still half inclined to change the SSID to MI6OpsVan226 just for shizzles and giggles...
dayzd Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Work servers are inherited. On the surface they're functional, but they're actually useless. Had to figure out what PH4, PHS, PHV1 and PHV2 each did and how they related to each other when I started here six months ago! Client machines are even worse - an old batch from 6-7 years ago were actually given names to match their main users! E.G. tomw, stevenl... Awful! At home machine names are largely functional too, based on machine (mini10v, mbp, macmini e.t.c.) but my workstation is called 'Osiris2' ('Osiris' being it's predecessor) and my nas/server is called 'Atom' -guess what hardware it in that?! It's main share is called 'Atomic'
X-13 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 my nas/server is called 'Atom' -guess what hardware it in that?! Ooh, ooh! Pick me, Sir! Is it AMD?
