MMC crashing under windows 7

Since early yesterday most utilities running under MMC are crashing on machines on our network. This is affecting primarily eventvwr, hyper-v and wsus, however any mmc snapins are are failing randomly

 

Has anyone else come across this?

You're not running Sophos by any chance?

Have you completely fixed this issues caused by the broken update last week? I have seen passing reference to mmc getting blocked by it.

As far as I can tell we have resolved the Sophos issue, however the crashes are still occurring

Not a clue, sorry. Hoped it was Sophos related as that would make the fix as simple as follow the 'sophos fix guide'. Might still be worth pursuing this avenue if the Sophos problem and the MMC failure were co-incident.

 

Only other advice I've got at this point is:

 

1) Analyse the changes you have made to your network/servers/client between it working and it not. Roll them back one at a time until the problem goes away.

or

2) Take a look at what is happening with ProcMon and Process Explorer. Compare it with a Vanilla Windows install. Investigate the differences.
