Macbook Pro to projector issues

Recommended Posts

We are getting random display issues when connecting the blue VGA(RGB) projector cable to thunderbolt mini adapter (genuine Apple version). We often get three stripes down the projected image. I know we can resolve this with a shut down and restart however in a classroom situation this is not ideal.

Does anyone have experience of this issue and if so did you find a workaround?

The reseller did suggest booting once whilst holding down shift key which then boots into 'safe mode' followed by a restart and we thought that this would resolve it but we are still getting random, maybe 15% of staff, with either the striped image or just a blue screen.

New 2012 Macbook Pro 13" and korean brand projectors that do not have hdmi port

Any help appreciated ;)

Have you tried:

yanking the connector then plugging it back in

using the display settings (you can have an icon in the top bar) to disable then re-enable the external output

testing under boot camped Windows to see if it is a mac driver issue

testing with an external monitor and the same resolution settings to be sure it is not just the adapter

different resolutions to the projector

different refresh rates to the projector

Had similar issues with new MacBooks.

Reboot the Mac with it all plugged in and the projector on. Seems to work for us as a work around at the moment.

But if 10.8.2 fixes it, then it's all good.
