Owing to user error we have managed to roll out some VPP apps to the wrong groups (classes) in our school. When I manually revoke the individual licences the apps are still available for 30 days which is a little frustrating when I am trying to clear up the mess but I do understand why this is the case (thanks Apple!). Is there a way to bulk revoke/unassign the licences as it seems that I can only do it one Device at a time which is rather tedious. Perhaps someone can also tell me what the red 'remove app' button does (under the Review button in the app page of a group) - is it just the group or is it removed from the MDM app library? Love the actual MDM and what it does - made my life a lot easier Cheers from Holland

Thank you all for your suggestions. The greatest challenge though is making sure that the student on the ipad can view only and cannot control it in any way . I am not sure that VNC is then the answer, unless there is a view only option from ipad?

Can anyone advise on the options for a visually impaired student to be able to view the teachers desktop on their iPad? I have looked at Reflector and Airserver but they are not the answer. Ideally with the ability to set the iPad to read only with no interactivity. If this is successful we are looking to roll this out to the whole school. Thanks in advance for suggestions for me to try. We may even have a small budget for it!

Good man, I knew it would be easy - shame the Meraki instructions failed to accurately describe how to do it. On another matter I am struggling with creating a decent wifi package and again Meraki fail to provide a decent explanation on how to do this. We have a WPA2 Enterprise set up. I am very confused about the EAP types and which should be ticked. Can you shed any light? Cheers David

I am getting to grips with Apple configurator and Meraki to manage our trolley of 24 iPads. I can get either of these two working but am struggling to get them to work together. The answer is to get the mobileconfig file downloaded and imported into Apple Configurator. That should be easy however all the Meraki documentation keeps talking about 'access the Mobile>Deployment page;' from the Meraki dashboard. There is no Mobile option on my dashboard, see image. I am obviously missing something fundamental? Can anyone shed any light on this simple problem? Cheers David[

For our music iMacs we have local log-ins with a network shortcut icon that allows students to access their shared drive. I think you know what is coming - a student (jsmith) ticked 'remember my details' when he used this shortcut so every student that now uses that mac gets straight into jsmith's shared area. Can someone remind me how to fix this, I seem to remember successfully fixing it last year but now cannot find the documentation. Many thanks from the man on the rock

We are getting random display issues when connecting the blue VGA(RGB) projector cable to thunderbolt mini adapter (genuine Apple version). We often get three stripes down the projected image. I know we can resolve this with a shut down and restart however in a classroom situation this is not ideal. Does anyone have experience of this issue and if so did you find a workaround? The reseller did suggest booting once whilst holding down shift key which then boots into 'safe mode' followed by a restart and we thought that this would resolve it but we are still getting random, maybe 15% of staff, with either the striped image or just a blue screen. New 2012 Macbook Pro 13" and korean brand projectors that do not have hdmi port Any help appreciated

We have a mac OD network running Snow Leopard server with Lion clients. We are using Sibelius in the music mac suite and due to its monstrous size have to get students to log in locally for it to run effectively. Has anyone managed to find a way to effectively run Sibelius whilst using the users network log in? Currently we have a shortcut to the shared network drive that they log into to save their work. However inevitably there are some who tick the 'remember these credentials' and therefore the next student automatically sees the previous students network drive when they try to access their own. We can manually delete the keychain but this is obviously not a fix. I have spent an age researching a decent guide to creating a logout hook/script but all the guides seem to miss out the steps need and assume considerable prior knowledge! Can anyone spell out the exact steps that I need to do to get the keychain deleted every time that a user logs off the local iMac please.

Snow Leopard server with iMacs running Lion 10.7.2. We have now successfully managed to move from mobile accounts to a 'proper' network environment - Phew. Space as always is an issue on the server and staff had, prior to getting the network, been saving to their C drive. Is there a way to create a shortcut with full access to their local C drive once they are logged in. At present this does not seem possible. Many thanks as always for the helpful responses.

Thanks for the replies. We are syncing just preferences now but that seems to take an age sometimes - over 100mb seems to be way too much to have to sync. I assume that it is possible to reduce this further. What then happens to the users changed documents if only preferences are synced? What confuses me about this is how awkward it seems to be when, dare I say it, compared to a Windows network. The students just want to be able to open, edit and save their work from any iMac. They waste a lot of time with the current set up - not managed by me I hasten to add however I am in the ICT team and am trying to gently nudge the NM to the right fix. Roaming profiles would seem to be the way to go - my NM insinuates that we would have to reimage all the iMacs for this to occur - likely? We are also down grading to Snow Leopard server as it seems more useable. The wireless issue may be another issue and not related directly to this I think. I'd be happy if we had a reliable, rock solid network that the teachers trusted and used fully!

We have 250+ iMacs and one Lion server freshly installed. Running Lion server. The network Manager has networked us using mobile accounts and we are having bad sync problems with the 400+ students. Now limiting the sync to preferences only in the hope of speeding it all up. Coming from a Windows background I cannot believe that this is the best way to run a network as it is so clunky and inefficient. It seems that this is the way it is done here in Korea. Can anyone tell me what is the standard method of networking macs as this type of network is driving the teachers mad. Christmas holidays would be the perfect time to get this resolved. We have had a mac network guru visit us and even he doesn't seem to understand what the teachers want to achieve. On a slightly separate note we use WAP2 wireless and are having numerous issues with this and the macs - is it too strong an encryption maybe for wireless networks or could this all be linked to the slow syncing etc. We are expecting the Mac guru in on Wednesday to discuss the issues so any thoughts would be much appreciated.

A few questions from a newby We currently have a live Moodle that we wish to greatly customize etc. It is hosted in UK and our school is in South Korea. We do not need the new Moodle to be live until next September so with money short we are considering installing it on a vanilla Windows 7 pc and using it to test, adapt etc before exporting it next summer to a fully fledged server. PC spec not great but sufficient with the amount of traffic expected. I intended using Microsoft Web Platform as recommended elsewhere and then a newer version of Moodle that that offered currently by Microsoft. Am I missing anything obvious? I have no desire to use Linux as need to get head around windows and Moodle. Only a few teachers will have access so no students or great traffic expected. Many thanks

I have been asked to see if there is a way to set up a shortcut to allow students to change their keyboard language without using System Preferences and requiring an admin password. Ideally a desktop type shortcut. Any thoughts? Also is ARD the best remote desktop option out there? We have a large campus and whilst I am staying fit because of the walking I sometimes would like to sort out things remotely - especially when it gets colder! Many thanks

It seems that the school has decided Oliver is the answer so I will have to run with that. They a seem to have a strange remote install/training system that I am trying to get to grips with. A server has been 'found' that is up to spec so I will be installing MS Server 2008 and SQL next week. It's been over 10 years since I did a server install so are there any pointers that I need to be aware of with a fresh install? We have around 500 students with the numbers expected to double next year and 100 staff

I will get back to you when the figure has been discussed. Personally I think it a waste to get a server just for the Oliver software. We desperately need a file server with AD. Horse before the cart etc!

Need some advise about new server(s). New school with, hold your breath, no file server or AD, that need to get Oliver library software up and running asap. There are plans for file server and student/staff log ins however that may be a few weeks away. I can't believe that Oliver software is recommended to have a separate server so was suggesting that it live on a separate hdd of the soon to be purchased server. Does anyone have any pointers/suggestions as to the best way forward? iMacs with Lion and bootcamp Windows 7, pc's with windows 7, all physically networked and on internet. Many thanks in advance
