MicrosoftTechy Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Any one done this or know what steps to take in-order to do this?
plexer Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Are you talking about replacing the sla battery in an apc ups with a standard car battery? If so why? Ben
synaesthesia Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I've seen it done. You need sticky back plastic and gaffer tape, some blutack, a couple of toilet roll holders and a deathwish. 3
MicrosoftTechy Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 Don't worry im not planning on doing it !! im just suprised it's plausible
tech_guy Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I was in India a couple of years back and the hotel we stayed at in Delhi had an 'IT Business Suite' - it looked great until I peered under the counters only to see a complete lash up of bare wires and car batteries being used as cps....
plexer Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Don't worry im not planning on doing it !! im just suprised it's plausible Why are you suprised the tech in the sla commonly found in a ups is the same as a car battery therefore by entending the battery pack wires from a UPS you could indeed hook up a car/leisure battery quite easily. Sirbendy Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 and indeed I did at home during an extended power failure..heh. Only for the inverter mind, not charging. Nowadays I use a standalone inverter - the APC blew up through old age and 4 house moves. Got some odd looks off neighbours - extension run through the window from under the Astra, uplighter on, radio on, eating tea in an otherwise dark and powerless street..heh.
