Femi Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Hi When we initially set up our Exchange Server, we did not set up email accounts for students. We have now decided to go this route for the POST 16 students. I have created their email accounts and have set up a different storage group. However, I don't want the students to be able to see the global address list (i.e. all staff names and email distribution groups), instead I would like them to see departments and form tutors email addresses only Is there a way this can be done? I know I can hide names in the GAL however this will prevent staff emailing other staff.
FN-GM Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Yep, thats how we have it here. What version of Exchange are we talking about?

I take it this only works with Exchange 2010? Have you also adopted this at your school?
FN-GM Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Not used it on Exchange 2007 just 2010. I have created 2 GALS in Exchange. 1. Staff GAL - They can see both Staff, Students & Distribution Groups 2. Student GAL - They can only see other students.

How do they go about emailing their form tutors? Did you allow for this to happen in your environment?
sukh Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 You can create another address list for their tutors and/or subject teachers which they can see.
Oaktech Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 You have set it so students only see themselves. How do they go about emailing their form tutors? Did you allow for this to happen in your environment? we tell the staff that if they wish to recieve emails from students they need to give the students their full email address. We find that this tends to solve the "I didn't send you my homework because i couldn't find your email address" etc etc.
