Windows 7: Black screen after initial login

If anyone can help me out on this it would be very much appreciated!

 

I've recently been tasked with setting up four new laptops all running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Initial logon is absolutely fine, but any further attempts to login you are presented with a black screen with the mouse cursor visible.

 

The strange thing is you can logon ok in safe mode with networking support or with the network cable unplugged, but any other attempts to login normally it just doesn't work. Users have roaming profiles as well as having their desktops redirected.

 

The only other thing I can think of that may be causing it is active desktop but I'm not 100% sure on that as their group policy is a gigantic mess which was inherited.

having something of a similar situation. Teachers can only receive a black screen with white cursor at login. Running Win 7 Ent x64. This recently started occurring for just one teacher but has spread to 4 now. I've recreated the profile for the first teacher but that made no difference. No new software has been installed but there was a string of updates pushed out by our new WSUS server.

 

Student accounts are fine so i'm thinking it does have something to do with the teachers profile.

had this before and turned out to be a login script .. usually one trying to map a drive using the net command and it hangs because the path does not exist.

all the network drives are mapped using gpo and haven't been changed in years.

I'll have to double check to see what drives are being mapped on logon, what's even more annoying is that no errors are logged in event viewer so i can't even refer back to that!
