Hi

We have been quoted for some hp v1910-48g to replace all our switches in school, currently 3com 4400. Are these a good choice considering they came out in 2010? We want them to last us a long time. Priced at £330 each for about 18.

Thanks

I'd go for a model with the lifetime warranty.

Ben

Is there a particular one you would recommend? I just want to make sure that if we are buying 18 switches that they will last us a decent time. How often do people normally replace switches? Do most schools use gigabit uplink or are most using 10g? We have fibre links to each of the cabs around school.

Looks a good switch for the money, I'd possible be looking at the 2510-48g but then they are a bit of a step up in terms of price. 2910al is the entry level switch if your after 10gig uplinks from what I can see.

If you tell me the part code you've been quoted, i can tell you if it's a good quote straight away.

Buying 18, you should get a very good price :)

Ignore that, I've just checked with the model number and the price isn't bad. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get that down further. I'd quote you £310 ish and maybe even less for 18 of them. Especially with our HP promo

Food for thought

Are you sure the V1910-48G is still on 3 year warranty? I thought HP had moved all the 3Com models over to the Procurve style lifetime warranty sometime last year. This page seems to suggest that HP 1910 Switch Series - JE009A, JE007A, JE008A, JE006A, JE005A, HP 1910-48G Switch, HP 1910-24G-PoE (365W) Switch, HP 1910-24G-PoE(170W) Switch, HP 1910-24G Switch, HP 1910-16G Switch - HP Networking

I've just bought 3 V1910-48G to increase capacity and upgrade to Gigabit to desktop on a couple of our suites, they're working nicely so far. Allowed me to find the limits of my FOG server when imaging through them!
