russdev Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Come to office/server oom and open and guess what hit by wall of heat aircon broke Time for a temp sensor for apc ups i think. Russ
Halfmad Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 bleh nothing more annoying especially if you have to use that room as your office as I do! If it was really bad I'd be tempted to switch of non-essential servers until it's fixed. Would prompt the school to get it done quickly
russdev Posted June 18, 2007 Author Posted June 18, 2007 aircon people in now threat of network going down gets thing sorted Russ
Guest drewinc Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 We were just about to pack up for the weekend (bank holiday monday aswell) and got a message from the science department that their ceiling had welled up and some of the ceiling tiles had collapsed - science room just below our server room . The pump had gone (at least the aircon was still working), We had to get a big black bin to catch the water over the weekend because no one would come out on such short notice. Fun and Games
ConTheITGuy Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 We usually have it the other way around - the Science department floods, and leaks through to one of our ICT suites! In fact, the favoured path of the water tends to trickle right on top of the projector Andy
russdev Posted June 18, 2007 Author Posted June 18, 2007 Well on top of that we had flooded music room as well... Anyway now sitting in the north pole and been told to get price on temp sensor for the ups.
kylewilliamson Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 we're under the water tanks, and thiers a considerable 'drip drip drip' at the moment...
Guest kerrymoralee9280 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Yeah, nice if you have aircon to break! Tell me where mine is because some members of the SMT think a fan will do!
Firefly_Transport Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Try a 25 million pound building The IT Server room was considered 'non-essential' Then fitted it with a south facing window With no blind With no solar film, but I can pay for it to be fitted, on top of paying for a window i specifcaly asked not to be fitted. They claim it will cool the room, but they haven't a clue what the BTU rateing is - and they haven't asked me for my estimated heat input. So they could not make a valid assumption in any event, on the other hand they haven't fitted the power to the racks - so maybe i am missing a subtle plan here. PFI, the modern way to be screwed over............
GrumbleDook Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 We are in the process of getting quotes to upgrade our server room ... the resident sparky has already done a few other rooms but it is like waiting for quicksand to dry getting prices out of him ... so we got the guys doing the 'comfort cooling' in the block that is being rebuilt to do us a quote ... so they gave us a price and no other info ... and then wondered why we asked to have it broken down with ratings etc ... So we are back to square one and back to the company that originally did our work ... but have been too busy to do anything for us. They come in tomorrow and when I explained about the present working temperature (35+) and the present output (15000 BTU for a unit rated at 7500 from what Stephen tells me) they said they would be in asap ...
