Rawns Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Well, it's lunch time. Time for my first play You're in for a treat then...
petay87 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Sod those! I found a mod one time, of which I forget the name, that created a whole new campaign to play (that happed simultaneously with the resonance cascade) as a Vortigaunt. Fun! Wow that sounds fun! Any idea what it might have been called or where you got it?
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 You're in for a treat then... Well, I'm very impressed There are a couple of glitches I feel (none that prevent gameplay though) and it seems to be a lot less generous with ammunition and HEV suit and medical points from what I remember of the original. And you can't seem to jump quite as high. Or perhaps I'm just getting older! Anyway, it's a hell of a lot better than HL Source!
petay87 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I appear to now be stuck :-( I have just entered the office blocks but when ever I use my flash light, the game crashes and I have to re-load it.

Any idea what it might have been called or where you got it? After a bit of Googling, it's called 'Point of View'.. I never actually completed it, might have to redownload it. No idea where I got it, but by now it's probably on ModDB or Desura.
Dos_Box Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Finished it! Now what am I going to do during my lunch hours? Point to note though, it doesn't finish where the original Half-Life ended where you battle the giant floating baby (which I never managed to beat back in the day), but it's well worth it and you do get some funky music and credits as well as a welcome 'To be continued' message 1
synaesthesia Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 That's still to come (they're re-working Xen massively as it was originally meant to be in Half Life)

Still working my way through, but get distracted by HL2!!!
Dos_Box Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I wish I had that sort of time!!! Still working my way through, but get distracted by HL2!!! It does help that I knew the original HL like the back of my hand though
aerospacemango Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 It does help that I knew the original HL like the back of my hand though I know it pretty well, as well, though! I just don't get that kind of time!!! Might have to have an hour or so this evening...... If the wife'll let me!!!
sonofsanta Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Been playing this the last week or so as well, in the brief spots of free time... and I never really played the original (I was young and foolish, forgive me) so it's been interesting to go through and see just how much game design has changed. I know this one is tweaked to modern sensibilities but it's still amazing how much more I get lost when compared to HL2, and how much more obvious the corridor you're funnelled down is. I still hate head crabs, though.
gshaw Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Only played the first bit of it so far but noticed how much more atmospheric it is this time round... maybe because I'm playing it with gaming headphones and the proper soundtrack rather than timidly on standard PC speakers while the telly was on (those were the days!)
aerospacemango Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I had been running around for about 10-15mins with some bloke who kept shooting crabs....when he got killed and I got to have the gun... 7 shots later and I was out of ammo.... At this point, I noticed the crowbar jamming the door! I'm not sure what was worse.... My cheering at having "old faithful" back, or the look on my 13yo stepson's face when he realised all I could do was bat things out the way with the bar.... "Why isn't there more ammo?" came the plaintive cry!!! "Son, if you need more ammo, you ain't playing the game right" came the answer!!!
