Well, W8 RTM and Metro Mail still sucks. Every third click or so it crashes out to start screen, delete sometimes works, move does not (IMAP). There are even layout issues where the selected mail items selection bar extends beyond the scrollbar - under it - and a pixel into the preview pain.

Who was in charge of this, the whole slate/tablet point now is for the basics - people as well as interactions - and email is one of those things. Why is it sooo bad.

Lots of the UI is copied right of the WP7 client which works great (apart from self signed certs) could they not have fallen back on that working code.

Grrrrr.

At first I really liked it, the way it looks, the minimalistic design. But when it came to sending an email with more than text that's it. You don't seem to be able to insert inline images or tables or any kind of formatting other than bold, italic, etc.

Funny moment last night replying to a group email (for football)

You get the usual...

Sent from my iPhone

Sent from my HTC

and then my reply from my Windows 8 laptop...

Sent from Windows Mail

Actually had a email back commenting on it :p

Also annoying that there doesn't seem to be anyway to edit the pane sizes. It would be nice if the main email body pane had word wrap to avoid having to scroll across to read an email.

I have noticed a lot of the stock apps keep updating regularly at the moment, so hopefully Microsoft's devs will fix some of the issues with the mail app.

Having said that, I am not _too_ fussed if they don't - I am happy to carry on just using a web browser or install Outlook as I have done for the past decade or so!

Yea but that drops you out of Metro and/or pushes you out to full always on web dependence. I'd prefer they fixed it so that it works under RT as well. You're right about the updates, there are plenty at the moment so hopefully some of the showstoppers are fixed by release to consumers.

At the moment, the way I am using Windows 8 that works well enough for me. However, I guess if I bought one of those lovely looking Surface Tablets, I guess I'd probably want it to work well, just like my iPad and iPhone do now, so you are right in it needs fixing.

I noticed when you delete something from a Gmail account using it, it doesn't actually delete it - but almost like archives it. Very irritating.

Thats a gmail setting for imap access. You should be able to set that in gmail.

They pretty much just need to take the Outlook.com interface and turn it into a local app, despite having to build it in a browser it looks better than the UI on the Metro app

Just found another potential annoying 'feature'. When attaching files I often copy the file path from explorer to paste into the attach dialog box. There doesn't seem to be one for local files. I had to use network and change C:\ to \\localhost.

Or did I miss where the option is? A lot of things are hidden with swipes and right clicks.

I can't get the mail app to work with anything other than, exchange server and Hotmail/outlook.com. I keep trying Gmail and it never works. Has anyone else had this problem?

When I try and add Gmail it says incorrect details but I know the details are correct.

Does your Gmail account have any periods in it, but you're trying to login without them? For instance, mine is [email protected], but I usually log in to mail.google.com just as [email protected]. I found that the mail app doesn't like this, and forced me to use the periods.

I've had trouble with Gmail too. I did manage to add it eventually, though it took a few tries over a couple of days. Check if there are any updates (open the Store app) and try logging in to Gmail in your browser, then adding the account again.

I have just got mine to work with the imail settings but it won't connect to Gmail so it can download my contacts and calendar.

I found out what the problem i was having. It was because i was tacking the box that said about adding the calender and your contacts. Then i found out there was a update for the mail app which then removed that setting. Mine is all working fine now.
