HP Proliant dl380 HDD Failure?

Hi im new on here,

 

Ive got a HP Proliant DL380 server running windows server 2003 and 4 Hard drives set up in RAID 1. I have been checking event viewer and have seen the following message repeated multiple times- "Periodic scan found one or more degraded logical drives: controller 1. Repair as soon as possible to avoid data loss." from a bit of googling others have said that this message indicated that one of the drives has failed and that I should replace in case the second drive also fails. but on closer inspection on the actual server none of the hard drives have the fault status lights are on. Was just looking for some advice as what to do, does the drive need replacing? (if so how can I determine which one) or is it an issue with the HP storage manager? Any help would be very much appreciated.

I would install the HP Raid software and get some diag reports from this. If needs be send them over to HP to inspect or post them up. It will normally give you some warnings.

 

Another thing to check is that the Raid array's firmware is up to date. Some HP Firmwares have bugs which report degraded drives and there isn't one.

The logical drive portion of the message means its actually referring to the RAID set in this situation.

 

A degraded drive could be for a number of reasons, including a failed or predictive failed disk. but it could also be the set is doing a rebuild, or the raid controller battery is low.

 

Do you have the hp tools installed? if not download the latest PSP (Proliant Support Pack) from HP's website and you will find some support tools installed. these should help point you in the right direction.
