Roaming or mandatory profiles

I am rolling out my new Windows 7 images and the time has come to decide on roaming or mandatory profiles. How did you incorporate users existing data?

 

we are also going to have different software in different suites so how are you dealing with program shortcuts? are you using redirected short-cut folders per suite?

 

It seems such a simple question but I know there will be many ideas about it and I would like to hear about things that caught you out.

We use local profiles. We use redirected start menus but its setup so only installed apps are visible, you dont get dead links then.

Having no programs installed on the PC and letting App-V look after start menus is what we do here (it dynamically creates them based upon the users security group membership).

 

Other than that its locally profiles that are deleted on log off - things like favs are redirected though.

We redirect the start menu to a local folder. Then a script copies down the shortcuts needed to that local folder.

The script will copy down the shortucts and get rid of the ones that dont work, ie the ones for apps that are not installed.
