superatticman Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Hiya Can anyone recommend reliable backup software for windows 2003 server? It doesnt have to be anything advanced and is plugged into a standalone tape drive. Its a server with 8 user accounts on and about 2.5gb of data to back up. Just want something which gives you a little more flexibility and information than the Microsoft Backup utility. Cheers
cpjitservices Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Rsync to a Linux machine - FBackup 4 or Robocopy for Windows. We use RSYNC to backup EVERYTHING - basically we mount a Windows Partition (Server 2008) on a Linux Server using mount (mount it onto something like /win2008dc) - specifiying the correct credentials then basically use Rsync to copy everything over from /win2008dc to a backup drive (in this case we have a 6TB drive in the box) so we copy everything from the /win2008dc directory to the 6TB drive - Rsync keeps all the permissions and everything the same - we run it as a script (cron) so if the server is rebooted the mount is done then a backup is done but only updates files / folders that have been changed. We also have the script write to a log file then the log file is emailed to us so we know what has been backed up and the size of the backup.
webman Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 We used to use Cobian Backup on several Windows boxes. 1
cpjitservices Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Cobian is good, I'm using it now for the Windows Profile Backups!
