Dos_Box Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I was listening to 6 Music when having my tea last night and a track come on with lots of WWII reports about the blitz dubbed into it. The track, London Can Take It by Public Service Broadcasting really made my ears prick up. Anyway, straight off to Amazon and £3.50 later I had their War Room EP on my laptop. It's very, very good, and PSB specialise in taking old news and, well, public service broadcasts, and putting them to music. But, on Stuart Lee's recommendation I had a listen to Gillian Welch (& Dave Rawlings) and have been mightily impressed. Meanwhile passing through the living room SWMBO introduced me to the distinctive sometimes haunting sound of Mumford and Sons which has become a bit of an earwig. Both of those strands seem to converge on the Old Crow Medicine Show's wonderful video (the link being they play a lot with Welch and Rawlings and the song has been covered by M&S).
Oaktech Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Gillian welch is on the folk/roots side of country... I would also try a bit of lucinda williams, but she's a marmite thing. I'm also a bit of a fan of John Hiatt, who is, depending on which album you listen to, either blugrass/roots, country rock (think lynyrd skynyrd) or plain old rock and roll. Also, since the death of Jon Lord, I've been revisiting a lot of Deep Purple, which has led me naturally back to Whitesnake, and onto a bit of Emerson lake and Palmer. Domino Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 @Dos_Box - that offended my ears. Personally I find new bands I like every day - recommendations, spotify or last.fm are the usual sources. These are one of the latest, Closure in Moscow. Not my usual thing, but cool in a kind of 'Head Automatica' kind of way. And very well written.

sonofsanta Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Radio 6 is pretty good for having random stuff on all day, they play some weird and awful stuff but every now and then there's a proper gem that you've not heard before. Been humming to myself a lot recently after airplay on 6. Think I heard on 6 as well, some cracking stuff there.

It's relatively easy to record a couple of singers with guitars, never less the quality and attention paid to the recording delivers an extraordinarily intimate experience. Here they are doing live. tmcd35 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I'm constantly looking for new music to add to the ol' iPhone. I find most "new" stuff through TV adverts, films and computer games these days. The Beeb was running an ad with a Richard Hawley track - "There's a Storm Comin'" a month or so back, excellent track! Also just added The Cure's "Lovesong" because it came up as a RockSmith DLC track! Both Rod Stewart and Michael Buble's new tracks were featured on BBC Breakfast last week and quickly added to iTunes. Ray Charles - "Leave My Woman Alone" INXS - "Devil Inside" and Bon Jovi's new album have all been added as well.

Stupid Bandcamp layout.] Plus, the OST for Panty and Stocking [iT'S A CARTOON!] and the Song of Storms dubstep remix. I have weird taste in music.
