We promised the kids a Wii for Christmas, and managed to scoop one off eBay for £26 last night when I was checking the prices out so I'm pretty chuffed at that. It only has one set of controllers and one game, but given the price of the console and controller prices I'm not too bothered. What I would like to know however is:

1. Is there anywhere decent to buy used games from online apart from Amazon and eBay that is reputable?

2. What are the best 2 player games for children (6 and 8)? Oh! And we WILL be getting Mario Cart

3. When it arrives, should I need to check it for anything? It was from an online dealer on eBay so a return should be fine.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Mario football for the gamecube is possibly one of the best games ever. Don't know what the wii version is like though. Otherwise Mario Party is a good one with loads of mini games and a storyboard (boardgame)

My son loves Mario Kart Wii.. to the point where he starts to call himself "Mario" and keeps saying "Mamma Mia!" when something doesn't go the way he wants it to

it certainly confused a lot of people in Majorca who though he was Italian!!

Get WarioWare, absolute madness, and fairly easy to grasp.

The GameCube version was better, but the Wii one is still hilarious.

The Rayman: Raving Rabbids games are pretty good collections of minigames that'll make your young 'uns chuckle, should be able to pick any of them up for dirt cheap these days as well.

Just looking at the one I purchased, and it's firmware is 4.3E, and having read about (I've never owned a Wii) I understand that it isn't the latest version, however some firmware versions were better as they allowed for a Wii to be hacked in various ways. Not sure if mine is a hacked one or not :/

All the Lego games are great...My youngest loved the Pirates of Caribbean one and my eldest love Indiana Jones set...

Recently taken to purchasing form CEX in store though as we have one local

Both Game and Gamestation now sell more pre-owned as they make more money on them over original

Wii can be set to update firmwire easily...even be set to check and flash the dvd slot when an update is available..

oh and I also finished every lego game we had :)

mario galaxy is also great for a one of a kind game...but not so easy when you get further in

I was lucky enough to have a Wii the Christmas they was released and have had many games for the family on it...hours of fun but the xbox is there more graphic demanding games etc

@Dos_Box - are there any more Wii Consoles for about £26 ?

Yes there are. I'm looking at one bundle right now that has 3 mins left to run and is still at £19 (I bid a max of £30 for mine). The trick is to do it about now (9:30pm) as the kiddies have gone to bed and there are still a few auctions left to run. You can pick up something decent for between £20 and £40 I reckon.

It arrived yesterday and works perfectly btw. I'm very chuffed with it. I even hacked it today and put the Homebrew channel on.
