Was showing a contractor where some cabling needed to be finished in our new server room earlier - its got the 'old' and the £22k worth of 'new' servers in there.

Open the door to be blasted by the heat. Air con has no life, its only 3 months old. Phone up electrician who sorted it out - he comes out - and after much head scratching realised he had cabled it into the emergency stop button in the dt room next door.

Which the dt teacher does randomly through the day and every night and weekend.

Great start to the day!

Now place the order for climate monitoring kit that'll notify you.

And bill the A/C installer for the electrician's work.

Pah .. you people and your server rooms .. if only I had a server room to complain about instead of a desk in the ICT suit with the servers sat on and the UPS underneath .. lol ..

I feel your pain though .. not the brightest sparky there .. I mean, where did he think he was wiring it into? Surely to have wired it into something you didn't know shows a lack of competence ..

We had our self installed split system replaced with a York system in our old building, the reasonning was two fold.

1) the old self install system was just not up to the task of cooling the server room.

2) the pipework for the self fit units had 7M max length and we could only get teh condenser unit as far as a disuesd store room. Said store room was cool most of the year, but in summer he heat would build up. The room was directly below the Heads office, he said his floor was red hot and the room unberable .... So we got the PRO's in.

The york system ocaisonal went off of it's own accord, after 3 different A/C specialists checked it over the last one did some research and found that the unit as being disrupted by the Wi-Fi aparently. Eventualy that got replaced as it was a hazzard to the health of the equipment.

Oh I had that before I started, a cupboard with some benching with servers on and a chair. I have got them to build me new office, repair area and a server room. Only been here 3 months.

First question: What drug did you use to persuade them to do all that?

Second question: Where do I get hold of it or do you have any spare?

:)

I was once given a small (and I mean small) office for repairs and stuff, only to have it taken off me later with the promise that the store cupboard was going to have air con put in so it could house the servers too, only to have that then changed last minute as they decided it was too expensive .. but they then redeveloped the "office" I did have and gave it to a new deputy head .. FUN! :/

I have been very lucky, even got to keep the old cupboard as secure storage.

But then I have been given £150k to spend this year, and we are 600 pupil school with 300 machines - so LOTS of new toys ;)

Blimey .. you have been lucky .. mind you, I can't complain, in my first few years here I was able to resuite the entire school with decent machines and I've been able to get 2 new servers and a Mac Mini Server as well so, I can't complain too much! lol ..

That isn't bad - i had that normally for a school 3 times the size (1600 kids - 200 staff - 950 machines). But last financial year we had an extra 100k from a building project and 40k at the end of the yearfrom *oh S*T we need to spend this money* budget.

All in all i had lots of new kit!
