Lion Server - using as workstation?

Hi,

 

We have a few MACs in our speacial needs department and the head is contemplation a large injection of iPADs into the school. In addition, not this year perhaps, the music departmet would like to move to MACs.

The question I have is -

Can you use a lion server as a standard MAC workstation? The reason I ask is the special needs MACs are all used but not intensivley and converting one to Lion Server would be a cheap starter so I can get my head around OD-AD integration because the rest of the school is windows and unlikeley to change soon.

Our Media/Web technician uses our Lion Server for his day to day work - server stuff just carries on in the background so far.

 

Also, for managing ipads, Meraki Cloud manager may be something to look at

It's ideal to have your server stand alone but in all honesty it doesn't hurt to use it as a workstation. It's identical to a regular workstation except with the Server App installed. Just as long as you don't go ahead and change network setting, computer name etc. which will throw the server setup off you will be fine!

I have server running of my main laptop and never really stops me. You have an option in server application to enforce server services over any other service.
