With 136 games on my Steam list and at most a third of those played, and only half of those beyond two hours, I really should know better, but I am weak and my wallet is suffering again.

The Steam Summer Sale runs from July 12th 6pm (i.e. tonight) to July 22nd and will likely cost you a small fortune.

Novelties this time round are a round of voting every 8 hours on the games you'd like to see headline tomorrow's discounts, and flash sales running anywhere from 6 to 12 hours because they needed more ways of tricking you into impulse purchases of every game made in the last 5 years.

Today's highlights, personally speaking: lots of Total War on sale; Crusader Kings II on sale (which I may go for in just a moment); Portal 2 at less than £4 if you've still somehow not got round to it; and Terraria and Legend of Grimrock for indie goodness. (There's an Indie Bundle as well but the store keeps timing out from heavy load so I've no idea what's in it, though I probably have most of them from Humble Bundles etc.)

Strength and honour, fellow broke gamers.

Looks like the voting isn't to decide what games are on sale tomorrow, but to decide what game is on sale through the next round of voting - i.e. the winner is available for 8 hours.

And yes I am online this early to check the flash sales :(

I grabbed a copy of PAYDAY: The Heist for a superb £3.74 and it's awesome for that value. Nothing else has really caught my eye though.

Here's a handy list of every single Steam game currently on sale: didimatic.com/dd/en/onsale/steam/

Click the 'Savings' column to sort by discount. :)

DLC really gets in the way of that being usable in price-ascending format, doesn't it?

I think that after 3 or 4 Steam sales in a row, I've grabbed everything I want to for the forseeable future. I was tempted by WH40k: Space Marine at £5, but I know it'll be on sale again at Christmas when I'll (hopefully) have more disposable cash than I do, and I have enough to be getting on with as it is anyway. Currently debating X3: Terran Conflict for £4 on a flash sale as by all accounts it's just a single player Eve, and there are times when I miss Eve (just not the feeling of being-at-work-in-my-playtime when you get involved in corps, and have to be online at arranged times, and can't pause when a child comes in the room).

I did get Crusader Kings II and Trine 2, though, and I'll probably get Sins of a Solar Empire if it comes up, but beyond that... there's nothing else I'm desperate to play and it will all be on sale again in future, either on Steam or in a Humble Bundle or similar.

EA may have had something when they claimed that these sales devalue IP :ohwell:

LOL... just got a text message from a friend whom I built a new PC for back in January, so this is his first Steam sale...

"Just been on Steam for the first time in a while. Too many bargains make my brain hurt..."

EA can naff off, their opinion doesn't count given their poor reputation in gaming. They can't complain either since BF2 is on sale!

sale ends 2 days before payday here :/ ah well

This is probably a good thing xD So far I've resisted temptation. I'm doing rather well, by now I'd have usually spent £25-£30.

I might have to get the Portal bundle, both games for that cheap is really good. The Indie Bundles are always good too. Though I am fully engrossed in DayZ at the moment, something is going to have to be specTACular to draw me away from an open-world sanbox zombie survival sim :D

I've just bought a new PC and am looking at some cheap Steam games to try it out (a little late to the sale, I know!) is there anywhere you can see all sale games? Or is it literally the dozen on the home page?

Also, any recommendations for me? I haven't played PC games in years but my new PC should be up to the task so what would my limited funds be best spent on? I mainly polay FPS and RPG, although I'm open to good action or puzzlers, racing games too and the odd sim... yeah I suppose I'll play anything!

Fallout 3 GOTY edition is £3.74 today. Borderlands GOTY edition is £9.99 - I've managed to sink 10 hours into it this weekend!

I was eyeing FO3, would you say that's a better game than New Vegas?

I've played neither of them yet - my colleague says FO3 is one of the best games he's ever played though, and he used to be a game designer...

Can't get a much better recommendation than that! OK, added to cart...

Not sure how much it is at the moment, bt PAYDAY: The Heist is an awesome game! Got it for £3.74 and is proving to be excellent value for money!!! :)

I certainly would. I found F:NV was too easy. I haven't completed F3 yet, but I'm certainly enjoying it a lot more. It's more difficult for a start, plus I'm kind of preferring the storyline of F3 vs the revenge plot of F:NV

My brony bought me the Bioshock pack the other day. I was pleased with this. Now I just have to pry the Mrs. off my PC so I can play it sometime xD

I found it remarkably boring. To each their own though.
