Well it appears that some people thought mermaids actually existed!

They did a similar program to the mermaid one (or how it sounds, at least) on dragons that similarly confused one of my uni friends as we sat watching it. He knew it was a pretend documentary when we started. He knew it was just an exercise in CGI and what-if. But still, after two hours, he turned round and asked "so wait, are dragons real then?"

 

This confusion may have been related to student cigarettes, mind you.
