Jobos Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi, How can I enable remote desktop on ubuntu 12.04 so I can remote in from a win7 machine? It's just that I have fog setup on ubuntu and as I don't leave the server on all the time I was wanting to power down the machine remotely otherwise I'm going to need to leave a monitor and keyboard attached just to turn the thing off.
apeo Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 If you want to power it on remotely you will need to enable wol on that computer and you will need to send a magic packet to it to get it to start. As for remote desktop, I believe you will need to install rdesktop. This assumes you have the gui/desktop version of ubuntu.

I assume you didnt know you can get a Server version and a Desktop version of Ubuntu.
