KMS Server doesn't seem to be working

We have setup a KMS Server to activate Office 2010. So far we have deployed it to around 40 computers but when I run the following command in bold on the KMS Server says it hasn't activated any Office installs:

I have made sure that port 1688 is unblocked by our Firewall, the DNS entry for KMS looks correct and i've re-ran the command to add our KMS license.

 

This may be a coincidence (I suspect not) but this morning one install of Office 2010 was saying it was unlicensed and I had to manually activate it - this is the 1st time I've had to do this.

 

I'm new to KMS so I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone have any advice for me to help me fix this problem?

You have the correct KMS key inserted into the Office installer so that it looks for a KMS host via DNS? Has it been working before?

Is office 2010 apart of your image?

 

Try running this as a batch file on an Office 2010 machine and see if it activates.

We used the correct Key and I've just double checked there is a DNS entry plus the VLMCS DNS entry which lists the correct Server + port number.

Yep Office says it's activated but the KMS server still isn't reporting it has activated Office for any computers.

Just looking through the KMS Server Event Log and I saw this so I assume DNS is working ok.

I think you get free Microsoft Support for KMS problems, might be worth trying...

I've found the problem.

 

We are a RM CC3 network and we bought the RM Office 2010 MSI package. RM configure the package with their own MAK key and I ran a command (cannot remember what command) that confirmed I was using a MAK key instead of the KMS key.

 

If you want to use your KMS Server for activation you have to use the Office Customization Tool to edit an .MSP file to tell it to use KMS instead of the MAK key. I have done this and I' hoping a reinstall of the Office Suite will fix the problem.

 

Hopefully Outlook profiles do not get messed up otherwise the Admin staff aren't going to like me lol.

 

I'll be testing this shortly.

Ah thanks for that might be useful.

 

Think I'm going to leave all computers that already have Office 2010 installed as they're all ok on the MAK key but any computer from now on will get a KMS key. Network rebuild soon as we're switching over to Windows 7 (at last!) so it'll all be sorted then.
