Policy + Process for staff installing / wanting to install software?

Hi

Does anyone have a policy document or process document you have which sets out in black and white what happens if staff want to install software on their machines or network? Also if they do without permission what the consequences are?

Just wondering if someone could PM me or share it? Need some ideas. Thanks

Also if anyone knows a good free software auditing program that can list all the software installed on the network :) Thanks

My Process used to be like this in education

Staff Ask - I request licensing info - staff don't supply as disk borrowed from school down the road - I refused - teacher got the hump - Teacher pays for said license - I installed.

Unless it is free/my idea then staff have to give at least a few days notice (so it can be packaged and tested etc).

Ideally, you will have an AUP in place, which will document this, together with some reference to potential consequences. However, in addition to an AUP you also need a SLT who will actually do something when staff ignore the AUP and install software anyway. Good luck with that!
