Exchange Personal Contacts

Hi all

 

I am having a problem with exchange personal contact lists I.E. not the global address lists.

 

It seems to be permissions related as everytime a user tries to view their contact list from the "To" button in a new message it can't find the list. They can however go in through the Outlook contacts tab and create in there. However even once a contact is created, it is not "auto recognised" if this makes any sense into a new message and simply refuses to send whatsover. This is becomming a pain as more and more members of staff are beginning to ask about distribution lists - which suffer exactly the same problems.

I used to have exactly the same problem. Do you import a prf file with your outlook shortcut?

I don't import one but that is how I allow my users to set up the mailbox for the first time? Related?

Possibly. I created a new PRF file and then that solved my problems

You need to tell Outlook to look at both address books. Quite how I'm unsure having only done it the once, a long time ago. Buried in email accounts...

It's probably not permissions - you just haven't set the contacts folder to appear as an address book.

 

In the email accounts bit, make sure that you have Outlook Address Book set as a service and then make sure that on the properties of the contacts folder you tick the box saying "show as address book"

srochford: Thanks a lot for that, i know that that option exists within Outlook 2007 but I can't say that I have ever seen it present within 2003. I might be wrong but not in position at the moment to have a look.

 

Is it really that easy?

I've been doing this recently too in 2003:

 

Tools - Email accounts - Select directory / add a new directory or address book - additional address book - outlook address book

 

Right click on your contacts - properties - Outlook address book (Tab) - tick "Show this folder as an email address book"

 

Close / re-open outlook

common problem when accounts change from 2000 to 2003 office

seems Microsoft doesnt readd the personel contacts unless you tell it to
