Conga music...

Well the title says it all really...

 

Our year 6 want a piece of music for their production...it is what I would call the traditional conga music that I remember from when I was a kid.

 

It was played at pretty much all weddings etc. causing drunken relatives to make idiots of themselves.

 

This was long before the execrable Black Lace release...

 

Anybody else here old enough to remember this tune?...I have been searching t'internet for an hour or more so far and can't find the correct tune at all

Oh well they will have to make do with Black Lace...that'll teach them...if only they would learn...

...I don't suppose anybody is remotely interested but I found the tune this morning...

 

...it took some lateral thinking about the era and who would have played it and then huzzah!

 

The tune is called I Came, I Saw, I Conga'd and the version I have is from the 60's by Nat Gonella and his band...

 

(It is also the basis of loads of chants used at something called football!)

Sorry I saw this too late, but I have a vinyl version at home which is instrumental and by Joe Loss and his orchestra. It's my mum's record and we've had it here because we needed it for similar reasons to you. Anyway, there is a pay to download version here:

Yep, that's the one...

 

The issue was not with knowing the tune...everybody I asked instantly knew what it was and could sing it (sort of)...

 

...it was that nobody knew the name apart from all the other names it has acquired over the years...

 

Once I cracked the problem of the original name I found several other versions by a few different bands from the 30's and 40's and from the seventies by the wonderfully cheesy Mrs Mills...and if you remember her then you are obviously old like me
