Microsoft Learning Gateway

Its been decided that we are using the Learning Gateway solution. Are any of you using the Microsoft Solution to VLEs ...

I'm wondering whether to:

1. Get an external company such as Ramesys or Texsys to do it

OR 2. Do it myself.

 

How hard is it too create yourself?

 

If you have any screenshots of the Learning Gateway in action I would really appreciate it!!

Hi Kiran

We are having the MLG installed tomorrow by Teksys. They are a very professional company and already have quite a number of schools under their wing. Their service has been first class so far. The technical team are very very accommodating and work all hours to get a job done for you. I couldn't recommend them more.

I've had a look at most of the flavours of Me ticrosoft Learning Gateway(about 12 at Bett 8O ). It seemed lots of them were identical more or less. The differences started appearing when it came to creating lessons/content. You can use RM Kaliedos or Microsoft Class Server (What Enterprise MPC use) or the new Sharepoint Learning Kit (free) or Moodle (Free) or anything else that can make web parts.

RM look like they are going in the right direction but not quite there yet

I think teksys support the Sharepoint Learning Kit http://www.codeplex.com/SLK which is what we have chosen, along with the possibility of using Moodle web parts.

The reason for this was to reduce the annual cost of the MLG "solution".

Being honest ... having sat down and looked at a number of solutions, and getting close to getting the pieces of paper in from the 3 shortlisted companies for the Northants solution, the difference is in the implementation, what extra stuff they have to kick start the changes, the templates and designs (remember that the needs for primary, secondary, special and adult learners are quite different) and the training package to help you get the teachers on board with changing the curriculum model.

 

It is no good having a learning platform / MLE / VLE if the staff aren't going to use it or if they do not change their practices to make the most of it.

This is the bit I don't understand... why would you use the Moodle web parts if Sharepoint has its own learning kit? Am I missing something?

I believe they recognise the fact that a lot of people have been creating content using moodle and this then provides the ability to integrate what you have already created into sharepoint as web parts.
