I may be missing something, but how do I order the deployment of packages in SCCM 2012?

e.g Kodu requires XNA Framework 3.1 - so I want to ensure that the framework is deployed first, at the moment Kodu is failing to install, followed by a sucessful installation of the XNA framework, and then (after a few hours) Kodu redeploys and is sucessful.

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Im just sat on a SCCM 2012 and we covered this 10 mins ago. You will need to create a task suquence. Its found in operating systems (sounds odd i know) under the software library workspace. In the sequence you can order the packages.

Does that mean that If I wanted to order a deployment ouside of when I want to image machines I can't do it (unless of course I put them on in the correct order ?

If you're imaging a machine you order it in the deployment task sequence.

If the OS is already installed you can do a custom task sequence.

Even easier (in 2012) you can create dependencies for software: If you want to install D then A, B and C has to be installed and it can auto install it (Applications->app properties->deployment types->edit->dependencies->add).

Yes you can!

Although TS are listed under OSD you can actually use them at any time. Just create a custom TS and advertise it to a collection.

The way I would do this is to create a TS with some checks. The first step should be to install the XNA Framework (but add a check so that is only installs if it isn't present on the machine), the next step should be to install Kodu (again add a check to see if is already present).

This is how I deploy sims (Check correct infrastructure is present, if not then install, check if latest app is installed, if not then install etc).
