Dropped Harddrive now wants to format in XP works normal for Win7

Hi,

This week i knocked my external hard drive off the desk :@

When plugged back into my desktop running xp it prompts me to format the hard drive, which i will not do as ive got a fair bit of software and images on there etc. So i thought id try plugging into one the the winsows 7 unmanaged machines we have lying around, and it autoran, opened up and the work was there working all fine.

So....what the hell is going on???

I even in a last ditch effort to get it running again clicked format in xp, only to be prompted that windows was unable to format the drive, its acting under xp as the drive is completely shot, yet in 7 working normally.

Can anyone shed some light on this...?

Downoald easeus partition tool, and see if it finds the partitions.

pull it from the caddy and do a drive fitness test , then format from one of the tools on the "UltimateBoot CD"

Have you tried a scandisk in windows 7?

No i didnt, but i will if this fails, easeus detected the whole hard drive has unallocated space with 0gb used.

using their partition recovery tool to see if i can get it to show up
