tosca925 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I have just had to check out a problem with a machine and found out aproblem with our DNS and DHCP. The DHCP entries are correct but in DNS the ip address for the same computer are differnet. I have checked others and it seems to be mainly laptops but it could be PC's as well. These laptops users movea bout a lot from room to rrom all day. What is the quickest/correct way to fix this? I have before just mass deleted all the DNS records and then let them re-regester over the day? What should be the correct way to do this and perhaps stop it happening again.
Geoff Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Enable DNS record scavenging. Set the time to be the same as your DHCP lease time.
tosca925 Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 Scavenging was set to 2 days and DHCP lease 3 I have set DHCP to 2 now. I set this before when i had the problem last time. Should i let the records update themselves now or delte then DNS and let them recreate?
Geoff Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 You can do either, it doesn't matter. Clients will re-register in DNS on boot.
